Derren Brown on Meditations

Derren Brown spends this episode close to the body. He reads Marcus's line that death, like birth, is no cause for shame, and admits a shame of his own that decades of coming out gay late in life never fully cured. Then he goes further: holding the hand of a dying woman, all the comforting things he'd written in his own book about death turned out to be nothing he could actually say. He rejects the modern idea that dying is a battle to be won, and argues for something else instead: authorship, the chance to close your own last chapter on your own terms.
